Youth Workshop

Follow the success of the Social Evening the night before Campbeltown and Tullis Youth Bands were up bright and early for “Breakfast in the Band Hall” before a workshop hosted by the new Youth Development Officer for Scotland, Andrew Duncan & Principal Trumpet player of the BBC Symphony Orchestra Hedley Benson.

The workshop was originally meant to be run by Simon Johnston but unfortunately he was ill but everyone agreed that Hedley did a fantastic job especially with the late notice he was given.

The workshop started with Campbeltown Youth given a reprise of their winning performance of the day before. It really is hard to believe that this is a Youth Band!!

Hedley then preformed a few solo items before soloists from the two bands took to stage to preform. The standard of all 4 soloist were extremely high and Hedley gave advice to help improve their performances– watch out for these players! Well done to Sally Chute (Baritone – Campbeltown), Michael McLaughlin (Trombione – Tullis), Ewan Williams (Cornet – Tullis) & Archie McVicor (Eb Bass – Campbeltown)

The day concluded with a question and answer session then a fair well lunch before our friends from Campbeltown headed home after a very busy weekend.

We now hope to take the Youth Band on a visit to Campbeltown in the near future!
