Youth Band

TRMB Youth Band

Youth is the life blood of all organisations and the Tullis Russell Mills Band is no different, over the years the Tullis Russell Mills Band has benefitted from a junior band which has provided many players to the senior band and in fact there are a few players on stage and in the hall this evening who have come through the ranks of the Tullis Russell Junior Band

In order to maintain this tradition and ensure a natural supply of home grown players the management team at The Tullis Russell Mills Band are proud to announce a new Youth Initiative starting around Oct/Nov 2009 where we will take on 30 Primary 6 & 7 children from Glenrothes Primary schools and teach them to read music and play a brass instrument with the overall objective to have the band playing in public by 2011. Application has been made to Awards for All Scotland for funding as well as the Russell Trust and the Tullis Russell Group.

To enable us to achieve our aim of providing the best teaching by using the most up-to-date teaching methods and resources, our team of tutors – all very experienced brass players within the Tullis Russell Mills Band- have already started working under the tutelage of staff from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, towards the “Graduate Certificate in Instrumental Teaching” which is a nationally recognised teaching qualification. We will work hand in hand with the Music Services Manager, Fife Council Education Service as well as working with the Development Officer of the Scottish Brass Band Association.

This is a new and very exciting venture for the Tullis Russell Mills Band and if anyone would like to become involved in the administration or organisation of the new Youth Band please contact us.

The Youth Band was re-launched in February 2010 and we now have 32 thriving children learning to play brass instruments.

All the Youth Band instruments were purchased through Band Supplies, one of the UKs leading musical retailers
